Why I'm Risking a Style Shift
M KainHappy July everyone!
I've been moving around a lot this year, from Japan to the Midwest to the South, and while moving, I've had more time to reflect and reminisce on some old work that was buried in my closet. I've always hated looking at my old work (some of it is cringeworthy), but I've been looking at my old pieces from high school and college, and it's sparked a lot of questions as to my future doing art. No, I'm not giving it up, I'd rather die as a starving artist than go back to do corporate work.
I've been struggling to refine my art process and figure out what sort of art I want to be doing. Do I want bold colors or muted colors? 3D or 2D or both? Do I want to animate or paint on canvases or create a manga? It feels like there's too many options and never enough time to do these things.
Ever feel the same way?
Right now, I’m exploring it all. I'm writing stories, animating a bit, using colors that shouldn't go together, and figured out coding to work on video games that'll never be released. This new blog post shows what I’ve been testing out lately, if you’ve been stuck in your own creative box, you might just get a jolt of inspiration too.

Here’s the quick version: I’m trying something new (and weird) in my artwork.
I’m M. Kain, and my work sits between painterly emotion and graphic clarity. Want to see what happens when those collide?
